iPhone, Check! AirPods, Check! iPad with Brydge keyboard, Check! Good old fashioned Smythson Soho Diary, Check check check!
Those are just a few of my every day work handbag essentials aside from the Cle de Peau Beaute Coral lip glorifier and the Omorovicza Queen of Hungary mist which are currently every day life essentials. I love anything that is going to help me productivity wise, motivation wise or just generally in life and I’ve been fine tuning my tools for the last few months so I thought I’d talk you through what I use, why I use it and all the pros and cons in between.
BLOGGING EFFICIENCY
I have my iPad Pro 11” with the Brydge keyboard so I can take my blog everywhere with me. I can’t type blogposts out on my phone, for me thats just not possible (if you can point me in the direction of someone who can, it’d be much appreciated because they need to teach me their ways). The iPad Pro was the smallest way for me to fit my blog into my handbag and take it everywhere with me on the go, so if I’m on a train, in a car, on a plane or anywhere in the world I can whip it out and write whatever is on my mind. I started off with the case and keyboard that they recommend in Apple, but weight wise I wasn’t able to have it on my lap and work from the sofa or hotel beds (I don’t tend to ever get my laptop out in my bed at home, its kinda a rule I have) so I went in search of something a little better and stumbled across the Brydge Keyboard which was exactly what I needed, it completely transforms my iPad into an 11” laptop and fits perfectly into my work bags. This is why you may have noticed I’ve been blogging more recently, because efficiency, ability and pro activity are all in synergy. Now I’m sure there’s lots of smaller laptop options out there but I work off one operating system to ensure all devices are accessible wherever I am on whatever device, so for me, Apple is Queen!
The only drawback I’m currently experiencing with regards to the Brydge keyboard against the Apple one is that you have to charge it separately to the iPad, but they both take the same cable so you just swap the cable over when one is charged and you’re good to go.
PEN TO PAPER
When planning my days and structuring content pen and paper are my essentials and I think they always will be. I trust that its not going to accidentally get deleted or even worse, hacked and there’s something so satisfying about using a really well laid out planner to its full potential.
I use the Smythson soho diary and absolutely love it because it has a full year view which I use for tracking my workouts and for me, thats been a huge catalyst for me being able to work out regularly despite not being able to get in the gym every day. Seeing all the days I do get my workouts in, even when I’ve had a super busy week is such a great motivator to stick at it and not let the days where I don’t, become the norm. The Soho Diary also has a Week view per page with a notes page adjacent; I use the notes page to note down everything I have to do that week in no particular order and then as I write my to do lists for each day I delegate tasks from the notes page by deadline, content schedule and time available. My days are planned right down to the time I have to get up and the time I have to be ready by, there’s something quite definitive about writing something down, its like a promise to yourself and because I get such satisfaction from ticking things off my list, its another big black tangible tick.
iPhone X Max
I’ve written a review of the new iPhone X Max previously which you can read here and its still very much a part of my essential kit as all my platforms operate from there and its camera is now such an important tool with regards to capturing video content that I potentially wouldn’t have captured with my Canon. It cant be just me who feels the iPhone is a little more inconspicuous than literally every other camera so its good to have to hand! I have however, just treated myself to a new camera which I’m hoping to help with content creation in an even more instantaneous way.
With regards to scheduling and efficiency, this is where my team calendar lives and all my meetings, events, trips, appointments blah blah blah get input into my shared calendar for everyone to access and for me to know what I’m doing and where I need to be around my content schedule.
Campaigns and campaign scheduling lives in a separate app and has a separate calendar currently although I’m waiting for the day google calendar merges with a campaign management software so that all this information can live in google as this would be much more seamless. If it has in fact, already been developed, let me know in the comments below because you’re girl needs this in her arsenal!
Notes is another app we utilise as part of day to day business as again its possible to have shared lists and categories with the team, and my husband. I write most of my blogposts, captions and content synopsis’ in there so that its accessible on all devices at all times.
AirPods
I always thought I’d never let go of the original cable apple earphones because I was sure I’d end up losing the Apple AirPods in a heart beat, but fingers bloomin’ crossed I still have both safely in my handbag and they’re so handy for zoning out when writing or working on a project meaning I can have my favourite classical playlist just for me and not annoy anyone else in the office. But also for answering calls discreetly when on the move, catching up on podcasts or devouring another Audiobook. Perhaps I’ll treat myself to the Noise cancelling AirPods one day and really escape the world around me.
CANNON 5D, M50 and G7X
My content creation weapons of choice for a long time has been purely Canon. Despite me being pretty underwhelmed by the newest G7X mkiii of which I’ve always used the older mkii as my vlogging camera, their cameras really are the best of the best for beautiful top tier content creation. The G7X is an icon in the Vlogging space and the only option for easy, great quality video content creation on the go. You don’t want to be worrying about over exposure, poor white balance or terrible auto focus when you are trying to capture content and the mkii has always been the most reliable.
For high production videos and imagery the Canon 5D is the pinnacle of content and has always been the Chanel classic flap of Content creator tools. I purchased 5D mkiii over 6 years ago and it still works as good as it did the day I bought it and whilst I absolutely could do with an upgrade, I’m hoping a hybrid of the G7X and 5D is on the horizon. Top tier content creation in a small, easily transportable body but until then, I’ve purchased the Canon M50 to test drive to see if I can find a happy medium with it to streamline my camera bag.
APPLE ON YOUR WRIST
And with all that, I couldn’t possibly need more technology in my life but I’d always been intrigued by the Apple Watch however, I’d never taken the plunge. Mainly because I’m a lover of fine jewellery and luxury time pieces and the selection of straps available with the Apple Watch just didn’t do it for me. Finally I stumbled across an independent brand in Belgium called Nuclieus who made bespoke, ethical diamond encrusted straps which bridged the gap between the tech watch and the luxury time pieces, creating the answer to my prayers. I don’t think I’ve ever had so many DMs about an item as I did my Nuclieus strap other than possibly for a review of the Apple Watch its self and now that I’m almost two weeks in to wearing it on my wrist I thought I’d give you a little first impressions and how I’m using it.
First and foremost I’m using it for exercise purposes, tracking my steps, workouts and activity is a huge motivator for me, the moment I heard about “closing your rings” I was already motivated and I didn’t even have the watch yet. It’s definitely not easy to do when you have no commute and you mainly work from home so its given me a better understand of how active I really do need to be. I also hugely appreciate the “Breathe” function, as when I’m stressed or anxious the first thing to go is my breathing so its a handy little ping on my watch to get my breath back under control again!
The function I didn’t know I needed until I had it is the “find your phone” option. My phone is always on silent because if it wasn’t the pinging would send me potty but if I misplace my phone or lose it, this can be a bit of a problem so with this function I just push the button on my Apple Watch and my phone makes a noise from wherever i left it, I use it roughly 1000000000 times per day which saves me a lot of time I would have otherwise spent searching for my phone! Game changing!
There’s a fair few other functions such as being able to control the camera on your iPhone by using your Apple Watch as a remote to take pictures with the view finder being on the watch so I’m able to take my own sneaky pictures of myself should I need to. The Walkie-Talkie function is another one I think is great although I need to convince my husband and my best friend to get Apple watches first so that I can forever annoy them with my incoming voice notes. A lot of apps still aren’t accessible, like the Dominos “easy order” function, which i’m distraught but I get my appointments via push notification so I know where I need to be next and am able to reply to texts and answer calls from it so until I can get my Pizza delivered at the push of a button, that will have to do!
